The Smell of Spring....Racing
November 6th 2006 01:51
Ah, spring racing is one of my favourite times of year in Melbourne. The fun, the frocks, the champagne.......oh, and apparently there are some horses as well.
I was at Derby Day on Saturday.....along with 129,000 of my closest friends! Thankfully I was in the relative sanctuary of the members area, as I walked through the public enclosure early in the day, and salute everyone who was there for the day. SO MANY PEOPLE!!! As I don't deal well with crowds, I have nothing but admiration for those who dealt with enormous crowds for the whole day.
Funnily enough, for a day at the races, the horse racing is the last thing on your mind. There's all those men in suits (why is that guys just look hotter in a suit???). There's the well dressed ladies........and the extremely badly dressed ladies. And somewhere towards the bottom of the list is the horse racing and betting. A couple of times I remembered the racing and tottered over to the tote to put on a bet.
There were celebrities galore at the races on Saturday. There was Kate Bosworth, looking very 1930's. Jennifer Hawkins, Megan Gale, Shane Warne. These were just a few of the celeb's out and about on the day. (I'd put pics up, but my pc is on the blink and I'm at a net cafe!).
Other than a man biting the ear off of another race goer on the day, the crowd was relatively well behaved.
One thing is for sure, that spring racing is the place to be for celebrity spotting.
Just a quick reminder though, if you're at the races. Please, please remember that there is little more tragic than drunk chicks wobbling through the crowd sobbing (because she had a fight with her boyfriend, friend, whoever) with a hat in one hand and her shoes in the other. Try and keep yourself pretty!

Of course, my main aim was to visit my dear little animals. They continue to look well, as they are always with you obviously they are very well behaved.
