Ryan and Reese Split

October 30th 2006 22:44
It's official. Representatives of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have confirmed that the two have separated after 7 years of marriage.

Reese and Ryan are parents to 2 children, Ava and Deacon.

Reese and Ryan first met at Reese's 21st birthday party, where, after consuming 7 midori sours she said to him "I think you're my birthday present" (according to the guru's at wikipedia). Ah alcohol, how many relationships would never have been, if not for the effects of our friend alcohol????

There's been speculation for a long time that the relationship between the two has been rocky, with Reese's career going from strength to strength, culminating in an Academy Award for her portrayal of June Carter in Walk the Line. Ryan's movie career however, hasn't attracted nearly the attention that Reese's has.

For the sake of both Ryan and Reese, and their kids, lets hope the divorce proceedings don't follow the ugly trend of getting very nasty, that we've been seeing lately in other celebrity divorces. Hopefully things will be a little more dignified for the two.

Her best work was in Election.
His best work is his hair.
Ava must be named after Ms Gardner.
Deacon must be named after ... um .... a landmower??

She was fantastic in Election! I've always really liked Reese. I loved Legally Blonde too.

Ryan is hot, but really, what has he done since Cruel Intentions?? Not much.

Hardly suprising I suppose that they broke. There has always been rumours of a split and I guess it was just a matter of time. Hopefully like you said this wont be a messy break up for the sake of their daughter.

Yeah, I can't say that I was entirely surprised by the news. I remember Ryan during the Academy Awards and Golden Globes when Reese won. He didn't appear to be the picture of a supportive husband to me.

I think the fact that Reese was perhaps more successful in her career than Ryan may have played a part in the break up as well, I could be wrong.

Yeah, I was just wondering whether they might have lasted longer if it was Ryan who was more successful. Who knows, but I think it might have. For a Hollywood marriage, 7 years is a pretty long time to be married!

I reckon she'd be HIGH maintenence

Hmm I dunno. She seems pretty easy going from what Ive seen, but then again looks can be deceiving.

Comment by KylieW

October 31st 2006 00:42
Do you? Actually I think just about anyone who is successful in film would have to be high maintenance, so she probably is. But I don't think she'd be as high maintenance as some. I actually thought Ryan might be the higher maintenance of the two. But who knows?

Maybe his hair is high maintenance?lol

But, na I dont think shes obviously high maintenance say like Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan, not that either of them are remotely good looking in my book.

LIndsay Lohan sounds like a goddam NIGHTMARE ...
Paris, funnily enough, in some (not all) interviews comes across as, dare I say it, endearing ... yikes, did I actually say that???!
I seem to remember seeing an interview with Reese and she came across as frightfully arrogant and prima donna-ish ...
Ryan's hair would no doubt have its own entourage and security ...

I remember Paris sayin in an interview a little while back she wants to have children within two years, how scary a thought is that. She cant even remember to put underwear on herself sometimes so I cant see how shes going to manage a baby, lol.

Lindsay Lohan used to be not bad looking, but then she lost all that weight and now is just yuck

I don't think she's in the same league as Paris and Lindsay etc.

I never thought of her as high maintenance, compared to some (say like Jennifer Aniston who I think would be). But that could be because of the roles she plays. But she is a southener, and you don't mess with those southern girls.

Bryn, I'm with you on Paris. Massively high maintenance, but i think she has a laugh at herself. Lindsay Lohan.....I actually used to like her. But I just can't stand her anymore.

And you're right Tony, Lindsay was way better looking before she lost that weight.

And I've got the giggles imagining the security that has to accompany Ryan's hair...hehehe.

Yeah, Jennifer Anniston sounds neurotic ... but then can you imagine the HIGH maintenence of Angelina Jolie ... combined with her schitzophrenia ... Y'know her father, Jon Voight has said she's mentally unstable ...

It's funny, I love Angelina Jolie. I have a girl-crush on her. Yet I would never actually want to spend time in her company, cos I think she'd be a bit mental.

Comment by Bryn

October 31st 2006 01:13
hahaha "bit mental" ...that's an understatement!
I used to have a crush on her, round the time of Girl, Interupted ... but ever since she shacked up with Billy Bob I kinda went off her .... (I think Billy Bob's a great actor, but the thought of those two sharing blood vials and gettin' nasty on the couch just made me go ergh!)

Was just readin in The Age, that apparently Ryan had a flin with a waitress in Canada while shooting some film and that was the last straw that broke the camels back, whether it is true or not I dunno, you know what these gossip columns can be like.

Yea I mean Jude Law got it on with the nanny, so why not the waitress. Anything is possible.

And thank you Bryn, I'm now unable to get the visual image of Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob going for it on the couch out of my mind. I'm already feeling under the weather today.,.....that didn't help!

Yes, that was very weird, imagine being her brother, I couldnt cope, all those impure thoughts, lol, just kidding.

Comment by KylieW

October 31st 2006 02:34
Yeah that was really weird when she and her brother had that whole 'are they'/'aren't they' thing on. Gross. But I could see how it would be easy to have impure thoughts about your sister if she was Angelina.....if you're from Tasmania that is! lol.

So Ryan and Reese have finally split. In a way it's a relief - we won't have to listen to any more stories about how their marriage is on the rocks, like we have done every couple of months for the last few years. Let's just hope their divorce doesn't go the way of the McCartney's.

Reading today the McCartney and Mills have called a temporary cease fire to things because of their daughter Beatrice, its her birthday I think

I guess it was kind of inevitable, but it's still very sad. They seemed like a really nice couple, and mostly untouched by the craziness of Hollywood.

Hi KylieW,

Oh my God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is devastating...I thought they were one of those rare Hollywood couples that would last the distance (like Kevin Bacon and Kyra)....

There's no hope for any of us marrieds if these two can't go the distance.

K.L.
P.S. For some reason, the format of this post is too large on my computer when I go on it...its only happening on this post....has anyone else complained to you about this? Or is it something on my end??

I thought it was just my pc that was doing it. But obviously not. I'll have to take a look and see if it's something I'm doing wrong. Thanks for letting me know.

By the way, thanks for the comments everyone. I was deathly ill yesterday and had to put myself to bed, so couldn't respond.

Paul Newman and his wife (forgotten her name, ... Woodward) are one of the longest celebrity relationships ever ... something like over fifty or sixty years or more.

That's pretty amazing for anyone, let alone a couple of actors!

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell haven't done too badly....though they've never married.

True!
And then there's Elizabeth Taylor and Jennifer O'Neill, both married eight times or so ...!!!!!

Yes, there was nothing Liz loved more than a wedding was there. She hasn't been married for a while now.....which can't be bad.

Poor old Liz. I thought for sure she'd die a couple of years ago. Gotta give it to her, she's a survivor. But she can't have much left in the tank.
