A place where we can indulge our obsession with all things celebrity.

Your house is burning down....what do you save?

November 1st 2006 04:17
In a day and age where we are supposedly becoming more materialistic and shallow, I'm curious as to what personal possessions are most important to people. And is it possessions that are important to us?

Paris Hilton's most prized possession is her dog Tinkerbell. Of course, Paris also lost Tinkerbell for a week earlier this year.....so maybe she doesn't take great care of her possessions.

Some have weird possessions - like Michael Jackson and that chimp, Bubbles. But then Michael is the prince of weird, so he hardly counts.

Lindsay Lohan should put underwear on her prized possession list, because I'm sick of being sent pictures of her out and about without any on!

Some of my prized possessions include:
- my Prada handbag. - it's real Prada and was a gift to myself when I opted to take a retrenchment from my first employer. Generally speaking, I wouldn't spend THAT much on a handbag. So it was a one-off experience and honestly I couldn't wipe the smile off my face all day when I bought it.
- my Jimmy Choo mules - because of the experience of buying them at Saks of 5th Ave while in New York a few years ago. It's an experience I'm unlikely to repeat anytime soon, so they're special to me. Also, it's unlikely that I'll ever spend THAT much money on a pair of shoes without giving it a second thought.
- my jade pendant - it was my mothers pendant. It had broken, and my sister got it fixed so that I could wear it after my mum died.
- my kitten - okay, so he's not a possession, but I love him
- my family - again, not a possession, but they're the most important thing in my life.
- my friends - same as above.

So that's it. 32 years can be boiled down to a list of 6 things, 3 of which aren't actual possessions. And the other 3, well the sentiment that goes along with the items are actually more important that the items themselves.

Would my list be different if I was rolling in cash (a la Paris Hilton)? I don't think so. I'm a girl who loves 'stuff' and I have a serious shopping habit (and the credit card debit to prove it) and I can still boil down whats important to me to a list of 6 things.

So, what are your most prized possessions? Why are they important to you?

see I'm terrible with photo's. I take them, then I don't get them developed, and if I get them developed I just leave them lying in drawers (god I'm unorganised!).

I was going to put my cd's down. But I love music a lot and have A LOT of cds. So then I was going to just highlight the most important ones, and couldn't decide so I just left them off altogether.

So basically, we've just leant that I'm very unorganised and can't make a decision. Hmmmm....lets hope they're not my best qualities!

Organised chaos does have a much nicer ring to it (well nicer than my tag of 'disorganised bimbo'!). lol.

Ah, what a nice boy you are. For that, you're allowed back any time! lol.

Some days I do wonder about my bimbo status. My sister has often told me that I'm both the smartest and the dumbest person she knows. Go figure.

Anyway, there's nothing wrong with being disorganised. I prefer to be spontaneous anyway.

I agree totally.

On that note, I have been organised enough to complete the work I needed to do today, so I am now able to head off and battle the traffic home.

You enjoy the rest of your work day : )

I'm pretty organised for having to run out the door (due to being on the brink of being late for everything) so I'd habitually grab my mobile/cellphone, keys and wallet. Everything else can go to hell!
