PETA Needs to Get a Sense of Humour

June 17th 2008 22:58
Jessicca Simpson
Real Girls Eat Tofu just didn't have the same ring to it....
Is it just me, or does PETA really need to get a sense of humour???? Jessica Simpson was pictured this weekend wearing her Real Girls Eat Meat t-shirt, and as one might imagine, the knee-jerk,-just-looking-for-a -reason-to-hate-someone folks over at PETA have decided that Jessica Simpson is of course evil incarnate to promote the evil virtues of a carnivore diet.

Here's a sample of PETA's response:

For a gal who's best known for her less-than-stellar brains (Chicken of the Sea, anyone?) and her ability to proportionately fill out daisy dukes, I'm gonna go on record saying that if anyone had to wear a ridiculous shirt like this, I'm glad it was Jessica—as people are more likely to follow the opposite of her lead ... ya know, since she's so well respected and all (yes, that was difficult to type without tossing in a hefty LOL). Maybe the meat-eaters of the world will be embarrassed to be categorized in the same field as Jessica Simpson.

PETA even came up with the Top 5 Reasons for Not Eating Meat which included:

4. Meat will make you fat. All the saturated fat and cholesterol in chicken wings, pork chops, and steak eventually leads to flabby thighs and love handles. I hope the upcoming "Jessica Simpson's Intimates" line comes in plus sizes! Going vegetarian is the best way to get slim and stay that way.

That's it PETA take the high moral ground and instead prey on women's insecurities about their bodies. Nice..........

You know, I'm all for groups like PETA that do their bit to try to conserve and protect animals. But seriously dudes, it's Jessica Simpson in a t-shirt. Get over yourselves. And stop carrying on as though everyone who isn't a vegetarian is practically a NAZI!

In the words of the gorgeous, amazing and very talented Foo-Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl:

"If God didn't intend for us to eat meat, then why did he make it so tasty?"

I can't argue with that logic Dave..................

Nothing sexier than a girl tucking into a steak. Go Jess!

I've seen a lot of very fat vegetarians around as well.

damn right they need to....... and the fattest ive EVER been is when i lived with a vegetarian and was young and stupid enough to allow them to dominate me to keep relationship status, and not cook meat in my own home, there's plenty of vegetarian junk food for miserable people to eat!!!!

I'm starting not to get PETA either. I love meat and don't understand people who think it's unnatural for humans to eat meat. If I walked around in that shirt, will PETA pelt me with goo as well? Hmm..maybe not, am not a celebrity after all but come on, I agree, they need to loosen up.

Aimzter - I agree wholeheartedly. The t-shirt is a joke. She's not saying "go out and slaughter innocent animals for fun!".

I'm all for people passionate about saving this and that, but like u said Kylie...sometimes they need to loosen a bit! It's when they become ridiculous (like this) that u wonder if they're for the cause or for the publicity...?

Like gee...am sure we're all hanging-out for what Jessica does next so we can follow...

Yeah, i think PETA is way off the mark on that all vegetarians are skinny myth. I have been a vegie for 13 years and when I first stopped eating meat I gained about 7 kilos. I was overcompensating by stuffing my face with carbs. To be a healthy vegie actually takes a lot of hard work,,,,eating the right combinations of food, protein substitutes etc, it's not just a matter of not eating meat.

That said, I don't think eating meat is natural BUT I never, ever, EVER preach about it to anyone. So by all means ladies and gents, tuck in.

i think PETA clearly missed the sexual innuendo . . .

i dont think Simpson was referring to a roast leg of lamb or a T-bone steak, i think she playing on the fact that:

1. she is a heterosexual role model

2. she is famous for being the bimbo who supposedly wouldnt understand the irony of the slogan (yet has probably worn is so she can express mock outrage when people cal her a slut)

Thanks for all the comments guys. Couldn't agree with you more.

RubySoHo - good on you for being a vegie. I like the idea of it........but meat......I just can't go too long without it.

Ok Rednecks and Bogans alike, pull your heads in. PETA works hard to promote the ethical treatment of animals. Maybe princess Jessica should spend a day actually seeing how the animals are kept couped up on factory farms and then a day at a slaughter house just to see the terror in their eyes before they are killed for your selfish tastebuds! You guys are gross! And its no wonder our environment is so f&%ked up!

PETA are getting more ridiculous by the day. If they put all their energy into saving tortured cats instead of acting like Perez Hilton they might get somewhere.

They lost their credibilty long ago, along with their rationality and people-ethics (telling girls they'll get fat if they eat meat is abuse too! Whatever their animal-ethics, forcing their agenda on people with that sort of campaign is rather reprehensible).

Can't believe I'm on Jessica Simpson's side.

Yes, PETA needs a sense of humor. I love animals but we here in the United States have much larger fish to fry (Peta, I apologize in advance for talking about fish frying. I don't even like fish. please don't hate me).
Economy, global warming.

This is great! The Petards need to get a life. Funny that the Petards assessment of Jessica can apply to their ally, Pamela Anderson.

I wasn't crazy about Simpson before, thanks to Joe, but anything that Peta disagrees with, well...

I love meat... and eat it often however... and while I will fight for anyones right to free speech, this is defamatory speech and that goes into its own little world in my book.

Damo - I must have an evil mind too, cos my first thoughts had nothing to do with actually eating a steak!

Shellson - I think PETA have the right idea, but their histronics annoys me. Stop telling me to give up eating meat or I'll be fat!

Also, to call Jessica Simpson stupid when their pin-up girl is Pamela Anderson is a little too pot calling the kettle a dumbass for my liking!

Michaelie - I agree totally

Fog - put your head between your legs and try to breathe (ooops, i might have made things even worse....oh no!)

THeRoderickPost - A sense of humour would be great!

Signals - yeah, I'm with you on that one.

MNG - Oh yes, I'd love to force feed those damn Olsen twins!!

Travis - Yes, I'm impressed by vegetarians.....but I love meat too much!

Hey Shellson, a lion or shark wouldn't hesitate to kill us and I say good on 'em if they catch a human and eat them. It's a food chain and we are on top. We are from a long line of hunters and gatherers. Get over it.

Explain how eating animals f&%ks our environment?!

Comment by shellson

June 19th 2008 09:02
Hunters and gathers yes, but humans have taken it to a whole new level. They breed animals and keep them in in pens so small they can even turn around. Factory farming is how we sustain our over populated planet and that my friend, is not natural. The fact is that the majority of people are totally blinded to what goes on in the meat industry. I honestly believe that if they really knew they would go against it.

The main point that PETA makes is that most meat is produced in very cruel ways. What I would like to see is Aussies demanding the animals raised for human consumption to be treated more humanely. This could only happen if everyone would cut out or at the very least cut down on the amount of meat they eat. Its that simple.

Don't think that this just happens in the US or the UK - its happening in Australia right now.
Hmmnn.. I wonder. Do you actually think about where that nicely packaged meat that you put in your shopping trolly comes from?

As for your question on environmental impacts - It is well documented that factory farming, along side the built envirnonment and cars, is the #1 contributor to climate change. If you did your research you would know this.

Fair enough you all have your opinion about PETA but the fact is their tactics work! Proof is in this discussion! If you all choose to ignore the warning signs that fact is we all loose. Climate change is here and unless we take action to change our habits, well we know what will happen. Al Gore said it all with his doco 'Inconvenient Truth'.

Aussies have a loud voice and now is the time to change our ways. Kevin Rudd want to improve our carbon imprint and this is a great way to go about it. If only....

Johnny,
it is common for vegans/vegetarians to claim eating meat ruins the environment by clearing trees on land to farm animals (depleting the worlds lungs and causing erosion etc) . . . there are also associated environmental costs with the petrol used to transport livestock and meat products . . . of course meat-eaters argue that there are similar environmental costs with farming crops . . . we may have to produce much more plant products per person to achieve the same nutritional benefits as a small amount of meat . . . but conversely crops do produce some amount of oxygen, probably more than grazing grasses but less than natural forest

PETA = People Eat Tasty Animals

Comment by Kleonaptra

June 20th 2008 14:57
Thankyou Ahmed. I agree.

Im a farm girl. I love animals and the animals I keep are kept better than most people, including me.

So, if I love animals how do I eat them? I understand the appalling conditions of a lot of slaughter houses, and I truly believe that what is natural is that if you want to eat it, kill it yourself. Hunt it kiss it on the forehead, thank it for its sacrifice. Eating, in the end, is about the exchange of energy. Even a lettuce screams when its being killed.

But I dont see anyone campaigning for the rights of lettuce. In my mind lettuce is just a sentient as a chicken.

My problem with animal activists is they all live in cities. Oh, dont tag their poor little ears, dont cut off the extra flesh that flies burrow into and begin to rot the animal while its still alive dont chop their balls off. No, PETA want us to use rubber bands that take about 6 to 8 weeks for the offending appendiges to break off. THATS pain guys. Ive seen the difference. Come and live on the land for a few years - so damn tired after fencing 10ks of barbed wire in the wind and the rain you cant expect a vego diet to replace the energy in time to do it all again tomorrow - you need protein man!

At the end of the day, biologically, we need meat. This is not a natural world any longer. We cannot support 6 billion hunter gatherers. It sucks, but its the way it is. We are not a smart species. We over populated over used and we just keep doing it. We make a lot of noise about saving the environment, but we make the noise so we dont actually have to DO anything about it.

I stand by my motto - you want to save the animals? (As I do?) halve the human population and give the animals their lives back. They did a much better job of running the planet.
