It's Official.....Nicole is Overrated
September 11th 2008 07:06
If, like me, you've often wondered the big deal is about Nicole Kidman, you'll be pleased to find out that according to Forbes magazine she really isn't all that great.
Forbes Magazine have released their 2nd list of WORST value actors and actresses. The salaries of Hollywood's stars were analysed along with the revenues from their last 3 films to calculate a return on investment.
Coming at number 1 in the overpaid stakes is none other than 'our girl' Nicole Kidman. In 2008 Nicole's movies averaged only $US1 for every dollar Nic was paid. This is thanks mostly to the box office disaster that was The Invasion. Nic was paid $17M for the movie. According to Forbes, the movie lost $US2.68 for every dollar Nicole was paid. Ouch!!!!
And just in case you think this year was just a one-off, I should point out that Nicole was number 2 in the most overpaid stakes last year (Russell Crowe topped last years list).
Other overpaid actors include Hollywood's highest paid actress, Cameron Diaz who earned $50M between June 06 and 07. She may command a whopping salary, but it doesn't ensure bums on seats in the cinema. Diaz was the 4th most overpaid actor/actress in Hollywood.
Cate Blanchett may be The Academy's darling, nominated for Oscars several times, but it doesn't necessarily mean she's good value. Cate came in at 10th most overpaid.
The Most Improved award goes to Russell Crowe this year. Last year Russ topped the list as the most Overpaid Actor. However, after the success of American Gangster, Russell is actually the 18th Best Value actor.
The Top Ten List is shown below:
1. Nicole Kidman - return of $US1 for every dollar paid
If I was Baz Luhrmann, I'd be worried about his epic Australia (or whatever the hell it's called) making back it's production costs!
2. Jennifer Garner - return of $US3.60 for every dollar paid
Well clearly she's a tv actress and is not expected to carry a movie on her own! Her salary is actually pretty low......apparently she just chooses crappy movies??
3. Tom Cruise - return of $US4 for every dollar paid
Well he's creepy and weird. Why would folks pay money to see that??
4. Cameron Diaz - return of $US4 for every dollar paid
I've never gotten the appeal of Cameron Diaz. As far as I'm concerned, she's always been overrated. Nice to have it confirmed.
5. Jennifer Lopez - return of $US4.10 for every dollar paid
When did J-Ho last even do a movie????
6. Jim Carrey - return of $US4.11 for every dollar paid
Did you go see the movie Number 23? No. Well, neither did anybody else, hence his appearance here.
7. Nicholas Cage - return of $US4.16 for every dollar paid
I honestly loved The Rock. One of my favourite films. But generally speaking I can't say I'm a fan of Nick.
8. Drew Barrymore - return of $US4.38 for every dollar paid
I like Drew, I really do. But would I pay money to see her when she does shit like 50 First Dates? Obviously no.
9. Will Ferrell - return of $US4.67 for every dollar paid
Apparently it was his role in the more serious Stranger Than Fiction that is bringing Will's return down. The public likes Will when he's being stupid. They should love his new movie Stepbrothers.
10. Cate Blanchett - return of $US4.97 for every dollar paid
Well lets be honest, Cate hardly does blockbusters. Serious acting is what Cate's about.

To say that little porker probably didn't see too much of the bacon is probably a little rash - but both have similar degrees of acting skills - trouble is only one of them has their snout in the trough.
Too much?

What an interesting post. I am not too surprised about the list though. cate Blanchett was a surprise as was Will Ferrell.
