Nicole Kidman - Perhaps There IS a Human Under All That Botox?
June 19th 2008 04:36
I've never really managed to get a good grasp on Nicole Kidman. First there's that over-botoxed frozen face. She also comes across as very cold and icy. Yet, she famously called up Triple J when she heard Will Anderson bagging her on the radio. She had told him the next time she was in Australia that they would catch up for coffee, however Will had seen her the night before on the tv visiting sick kids in hospital in Sydney and yet no phone call.
Less than 5 mins after the conversation, Nicole Kidman actually called through to the radio station and extended her offer of coffee to Will Anderson. That tells me that she might possibly have a sense of humour. Yet, I just can't see it.
Keith Urban seems a pretty relaxed kind of dude and is very witty and charming in interviews. He loves Nicole, so you'd think perhaps there's a more relaxed Nicole somewhere under that Botox, but again, I can't see it.
This month's VOGUE features an article on Nicole where she talks about her pregnancy and filming the Baz Luhrmann epic, Australia (I don't know much about the flick, but I'm pretty sure that even with Hugh Jackman starring in it, you couldn't pay me to watch it!). And she even sounds vaguely human!!
Nic tells Vogue that she cried the first time she saw her unborn child in an ultrasound (thankfully tearducts don't age, or she would have had them botoxed too!). Hugh Jackman, tells the reporter that despite that Nic suffered from terrible morning sickness, she never held back and put in 14-15 hour days and even fainted one day while on horseback.
Says Baz Luhrmann of Nicole - she's a thoroughbred, "She is highly strung, highly volatile, highly everything." While I don't know Nic, that actually sounds a pretty apt description (cos lets face it, the thoroughbred might be all glitz and glamour and get all the attention, but it's the fat little pony in the paddock that you just want to take home and love!).
To read the article, CLICK HERE. It's a pretty good read, but still leaves me a bit confused about whether Nic might possibly actually have some humanity under that icy cold exterior of hers (maybe the fact that you can't have botox will pregnant has actually loosened her up a little???).

Yes she's quite beautiful, but is there anything more to her than that frozen forehead? I can't work it out!!

I know she looks frozen, but I really don't think she actually is. She always seems animated, funny and down to earth in her interviews, especially her Aussie ones. She still talks like an Aussie. She still does Aussie things.
I think she's very private in Hollywood, but have a look at other interviews she has done and you might see more of what you glimpsed just now...
I didn't know about the Triple J story - good one.
Please nobody hate me for liking Nic.

Total Randomness
I have heard some of her interviews on the radio and if she is in Sydney I have heard her call in and talk to Kyle and Jackie O. She came across as genuine and funny. It takes someone with her personality and strength to shut Kyle up. In photographs and press she does look like a botox pin cushion with icy death ready to spread from her chilling gaze. I also worked with the projectionist from Mission Impossible that said she was a total bitch. I used to picture her as the character she played in To Die For (Gus Van Sant) about this psycho "Weather Girl" who would do anything for fame. And while she might occasionally come across as a "not so nice" person - every time I watch her in film she mesmerizes. She is amazing at her skill and I applaud her for it. And Australia looks like the BEST AUSTRALIAN film EVER made!!!!

Celebrity Obsession
Nic is one of those people that I think people either really like or really dislike......no middle ground. But you can't argue with her success.

The botox is unfortunate - it'd be inspiring to see established actresses age freely, but Kidman is, even now, posing semi-nude on magazine covers.

I once said Id never spend heaps of money on face products. Money is more important to me for other things, and Im sure plenty of celebs said the same thing....But at 26, my 'childhood' acne has refused to disappear, and I recently developed lines under my eyes I cant get rid of. Well, Ive shelled out for Loreal cleansers and toners and moisturisers, and an eye cream that promises to remove the most stubborn lines. Oh, and a hair colour because my roots look ridiculous.
So let she without sin throw the first stone.

I have no problem with botox and collagen etc, I just wish they would use it to soften their looks not freeze them!

I still couldnt bring myself to shell out for the Loreal eye cream....I bought a garnier one at half the price. The lines are still there....
