A place where we can indulge our obsession with all things celebrity.

Most Powerful Celebrities

June 18th 2007 01:31
Forbes has released it's annual list of the 100 Most Powerful Celebrities.

Oprah Winfrey most powerful celebrity
All hail Oprah Winfrey
Coming in at number 1, in the money making and power stakes was Oprah Winfrey, followed by golfer Tiger Woods, though poor old Tiger was only ranked 4th in the money rankings. $100M in 2007. Looks like he'll be tightening the purse strings a little, the poor fellow!

Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp were the highest rated actors, coming in at numbers 5 and 6 respectively. Despite being universally acknowledged as a fruit cake and then being dropped by Paramount last year, Tom Cruise still came in as the 8th Most Powerful Celebrity. Though in terms of money earnt last year, he only came in at 36.

Nicole Kidman golden globes
Nicole Kidman
Aussie Nicole Kidman was ranked as the 27th Most Powerful Celebrity, though in the Faces Frozen By Botox stakes, she's easily Number 1! The only other Australian to make the list was Cate Blanchett coming in at Number 63.

Surprisingly 50 Cent was rated more powerful than Justin Trousersnake Timberlake. Who knew anyone was still buying 50 Cents music??? Mind you, I'm pretty sure that Forbes rated him higher than Timberlake so they didn't get a 'cap in their asses' from 50.

Retired basketball player Michael Jordan came in at a respectable 35. Mmmmmm.......Michael Jordan. Sorry, I was going to make an insightful and thought provoking comment about Jordan's power despite not playing the game that made him famous anymore. But I can't think about Michael and form coherant sentences as well. So I'm just going to have a private moment and think about him a little longer...........mmmmmmmmmmm. ........

Sorry, continuing with the story now.

Jessica Simpson came in at Number 60! Why? Her album tanked big time, her movies haven't done so well either. Also she can't recite the alphabet past the letter F. Powerful? Hardly.

The highest rated author in the list was Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling, coming in at Number 48. The Da Vinci Code author, Dan Brown came in at Number 86.

The Rollling Stones
The Rolling Stones
Musicians rated highly in the list. Madonna was the highest rated musician, followed by The Rolling Stones at Number 4, Elton John at Number 7, Jay Z at Number 9 and Bon Jovi at Number 18. And no, that's not a typo. Apparently Bon Jovi are the 18th Most Powerful Celebrities going round! Hmmmm......in 1987 perhaps.

Unsurprisingly, Steven Spielberg was the most powerful Director/Producer, coming in at Number 10. He was ranked Number 3 in terms of money, earning $110M last year.

Don't bother looking to see where Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan, Mary Kate or Ashley Olsen and Britney Spears came in the list. None of them made it in to the Top 100. Paris and Nicole fell off the list because nobody cares about their show The Simple Life, and nobody wanted to listen to Paris' album or buy Nicole's book. Lindsay Lohan hasn't been on the list since 2005. But in the 100 Biggest Trainwrecks list, Linds managed to just push past Tara Reid to take the Number 1 spot (okay, so I just made that list up......you know she'd win it if it was a real list).

In 2002 Britney Spears was the Number 1 Most Powerful Celebrity. The following year she fell off the list completely and has never made it back on. Most Overexposed Nether Regions, she's top dog. And she's tied at Number 2 with Tara Reid on the Trainwreck List.

And poor old Mary Kate and Ashley fell off the list because the 'tween' market that they focus on isn't all that interested in them anymore. Just a tip girls. You're trying to sell clothes. If it was me selling my designs, I'd try to be my best advertisement and look good in my clothes. But you know, your marketing ploy of trying to look like homeless vampires is another perfectly valid strategy.

Dusk,

Hehehe, thanks! By the way, I'm eagerly awaiting your thoughts on Saturday nights game. I watched the first half, but then had to go off to bed.

Oh God. Where do I even start with this post????

One of your funniest posts ever KW...and that's saying something!

Every single paragraph has totally quotable quotes!

You should make this a Breaking Post.

Hell. You should be writing this for Forbes.

Dusk,

Wow, thats high praise indeed. Thank you! ~blush~.

I'd like to know the formula Forbes used to come up with this list.....there's definitely a few anomalies.

As usual excess of wealth is disgusting me....
Im one of those people that says if you shared it around, we could all be so happy....
Except Im smart enough to know, we wouldnt be. If we all got money tomorrow that just wouldnt work. We still need someone to lord it over! Id so love to be number one, known for my generous donations *chortle!*
Oh, gotta tell you, Kman made a comment I think youd like....
My best mate and I were watching TV and we commented on the anorexic people on all the ads. Male, female, every ad, they all needed a cheeseburger. Kmans brilliant deduction?
"We have to show skinny people on TV, the government wants it that way, so all the black guys stop coming over trying to steal all our food!"
Everyone was ROF LAO

Kleo,

Hahaha, great comment!! It's mind boggling to think about getting that much money isn't it.

I remember seeing how much the CEO of BHP was paid and worked out that he earns over $100,000 PER WEEK (I think it was the BHP CEO....one of those anyway). And he doesn't even earn $6M a year. That's crazy

Tammy,

Yeah, Oprah at number 1 was a no brainer wasn't it. I bet Trump was higher last year. The Apprentice has been cancelled (I think, one day it is, the next it's back on!).

12 Grey's Anatomy cast

so what happens if only one of the cast members walks into a restaurant? do they only get a smidge of the service they deserve, or do they have to wait until the rest of the cast arrives? or do they just go everywhere together? the mind boggles.

Now that I have been enlightened, I feel I must study these celebritiies and learn what I can. We all need a faux guru.

Hey Kylie

how is JK Rowling lower than the cast from Desperate Housewives?

and Howard Stern?

I think Forbes has been a little mistaken with their list.... but you are spot on with your humour Kylie.... as always! I laughed myself silly while reading!

cheers

yeah, this is a pretty shady list... it seems totally arbitary. Forbes is just trying to bring the traffic and popularity back to their previously-for-old-stuff-men's magazine...

Jonathan - VERY good point. Do they have to travel in a pack???

Deorre - Surely you can get yourself into the Top 10 by next year.

Ash - I agree. How do the Desperate Housewives or Grey's Anatomy cast have more power than most of the list??? I don't get it.

Mis - They may as well just appoint Oprah queen of the universe and be done with it!!

Cibby - so young to be so cynical Having said that, I'd say you're spot on!!
