Michael J Fox Ad for Stem Cell Research

October 27th 2006 01:57
Michael J Fox has appeared in an ad for Missouri Democrat, Claire McCaskill to support stem cell research.

Supporters claim that stem cell research may have the potential to assist with degenerative diseases, such as Parkinsons Disease, which Michael suffers from.

In the video, Fox makes the twitches and shakes that are typical of Parkinson sufferers.

The right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh criticised the ad saying that Fox exaggerated the twitches and was 'acting' in the ad to garner sympathy. Michael has since come and denied this. Personally I think Rush is an idiot!

I love Michael J Fox, and it's so sad to see the effects of this disease on him.

I love Michael J Fox as well, one of the few celebrities that seems to be unaffected by fame and is just a genuinely nice guy. Hopefully common sense prevails and stem cells are allowed to be used to help wipe out this terrible disease.

Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot (thank you, Al Franken). Personally, I'd take Michael J. Fox's word over his anytime.

I hope that they do allow more stem cell research.

You're right TonyK Michael J Fox does seem to be a really genuine guy. He's amazing, he still looks just like he did in his Alex P Keaton days on Family Ties.

After seeing the I have to say that it is an emotional appeal to a controversial issue. Here the science of stem cells whether they be embryonic or adult stem cells is not being argued in a scientific or rational manner. Personally I think it borderes on emotional blackmail. Or is in the class as television add that show starving children on television before asking for sponsorship. I may seem harsh but even scientists are still arguing over the ethics of stem cell research.
If it wasn't stem cell research but another controversial treatment like shark cartalige the add would be viewed in a different light.
