Forbes Best Value Stars
August 9th 2007 01:56
We all love a bargain, and movie studios are no execption to that. So, to help out the poor movie studios, Forbes Magazine has released their list of Best Value Stars. That is the stars who make the most money compared to their fee.
Topping the list as the Best Value Star was Matt Damon who gives a return on investment of $29 USD for every $1 he is paid. Matt's presence at the top of the list is mostly due to his turn as Jason Bourne in the Bourne trilogy which has earned around $800M. Damon offers more than twice the value of other heavyweight stars such as Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks and Will Smith. If I was Matt, I'd be asking for a pay rise!!!
The Best Value Stars are (and the $ their films gross for every $ dollar they are paid):
1. Matt Damon - $29 - remember when Ben Affleck was considered the 'hot' one??
2. Brad Pitt - $24
3. Vince Vaughan/Johnny Depp (tied) - $21
4. Jennifer Aniston - $17 - not bad for a someone who is essentially a 'supporting actress'
5. Angelina Jolie - $15 - all the better to adopt foreign babies!
6. Renee Zellweger - $14 - On $'s made per pound weighed she's number one!
7. Reese Witherspoon - $13 - maybe Ryan Phillipe should have thought twice before cheating on her!!
8. Ben Stiller - $13 - the highest ranked funnyman
9. Sandra Bullock - $13
10. Tom Hanks - $12
11. Leonardo Di Caprio - $11
12. Tom Cruise - $11 - Xenu is going to be pissed!!!
13. Will Smith - $10
14. Denzel Washington - $10
15. Cameron Diaz - $9
So, who are the Worst Value for Money??? Well, I'm glad you asked.....
[1. Will Ferrell - $8
2. Jim Carrey - $8 - well, when was the last hit movie for Jim???
3. Nicole Kidman - $8 - maybe her movies would make more money if she could make facial expressions? Just a thought.
4. Jennifer Lopez - $7 - Maid in Manhattan. The Wedding Planner. Gigli. I'm surprised she makes this much!!!
5. Russell Crowe - $5 - Damn Russ, does this mean you're worse value for money than Lindsay Lohan?????

Matt is consistent. He draws the crowds in without having to publicize his privat lif.
I am surprisd that Brad is 2nd but I suppose it's based on appeal and he may be considered gorgeous but he's also...approachable looking...like he'd be good for a laugh.
(I've always thought that was the attraction for Ms Jolie..she is so freakin' serious...lighten up lady!)
I so do not get Anniston's ranking.
...I love the commentary!! Pure Kylie Gold!!

Yeah, I like Matt too. He's a quiet achiever.
I didn't think Brad would rate so highly either. But since getting older he does have that everyman appeal to him. He seems genuinely nice. And god knows Angelina definitely needs to lighten up!!!!
As for Aniston. The only thing I can put it down to is her Leading Men bringing in the bucks!!!

It's actually a good way of showing us and all of the Hollywood moguls who the brats are charging more than their worth, and who the decent actors are that obviously don't ask for money hideously beyond their requirements.
As for Jen Aniston- they probably don't pay her as much as we think, but her box office success is probably nicely surprising to the studios (and us!).
Love that Russell Crowe, the tantrum throwing boofhead, is the lowest value. Agree that Nic wouldn't probably get a higher return on investment if she hadn't shot her face full of immobility.

I really like Matt Damon. He doesn't seem to buy into the Hollywood bullshit.

Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Vince Vaughan/Johnny Depp.
They are all "steady eddies". I would go to any of these guys movies. I am not surprised about the "inflated" actors list. What an interesting post.
