Madonna on Oprah
October 26th 2006 01:29
What do you do if you're trying to adopt a Malawi boy and the world media is in an uproar? Well of course, the first thing you do is go on Oprah and tell the world your side of the story!
On Tuesday, Madonna taped an interview with Oprah (via satellite from London).
According to newspaper reports, Madonna told Oprah that she was surprised by the furore her adoption had created. She also said that she blamed the media for the controversy.
Madonna told Oprah that she had acted according to the law. Which she also claimed in an open letter on her website last week.
According to audience members, Madonna seemed surprised to hear that David's father has come out and said that he didn't realise that he was signing away custody of his child for good. The newspaper reports that Madonna told Oprah that she met with the father and looked him in the eye.
Of course, you could argue that looking a man in the eye doesn't mean that the Malawi man in question actually understood a word that was said to him about the adoption!!! But that's just me.
Madonna felt that the father was only saying this because the media had gotten to him.
During the interview, Madonna supposedly said that she and Guy had been considering adoption for 2 years.
Whew, thank goodness we have Oprah as a place for stars to unburden themselves huh?

Actually, I've just been looking at other sites and found out that part of the reason Madge was in Malawi was to check on a chain of 8 orphanages that her charity run or sponsor. I mean, think what you like of Madonna, but she's trying to make it a better place.
I don't think I'll be able to watch the Oprah interview though. I really can't stand Oprah. I wish Madonna had chosen anyone else to talk to. Uggh, Oprah.

Oprah spends so much time sucking up to celebrities and making sure that everyone knows how they're her friends that her interviews are a waste of time. They're really about Oprah. I'm sure there'll be lots of "oh when I was in Malawi,..." or "I've thought of adoption too, after going to Africa to do my Oprah xmas special....." droning from Oprah (of course, the fact that I know Oprah did a xmas special and took the Oprah show to Africa one xmas means that I do on occasion watch her show.....oops!).
