John Travolta Has Delusions of Grandeur

April 19th 2007 00:00
John Travolta
John Travolta
John Travolta's ego is obviously the size of a continent! He has come out and told the Irish Times that he is as big a star as Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe! Though, he believes that he hasn't shared their fate because of his religious values.

“I have fame on the level of a Marilyn Monroe or an Elvis, but part of the reason I didn’t go the way they did was because of my beliefs."

John, John, John. C'mon. Dude. Seriously. You're okay. I was really impressed with the way you resurrected your career with Pulp Fiction. But big as Elvis? Somehow, I just don't believe that 25 years after you've been dead that people will still be spotting you at the local 7-11, or making pilgrimages to your house.

There are times when John Travolta has blown out physically to as big as Elvis ... (So, he got that one right ...

But until he has sex with one of the Kennedy's? ... I won't believe a word of what he says ...

Scientology is the biggest load of rubbish I've ever read in my life ... (It makes Jehovah Witnesses look like Angels ...

If you want to know what God thinks of money? Just look at the people he gives it to ...

David ...

The Beatles claimed they were bigger than Jesus ... Now, either they checked out the dimensions of the Holy Shroud and realised Christ wasn't a big man in modern terms or they just took too many drugs ... *

Love your take on celebrity ... It's wild ...

David,

Haha, yes he has been a porker at times!! His comment did make me think of the Beatles saying that they were bigger than Jesus. Why do people make these comparisons.

I'm not into religion at all, but Scientology in particular seems ridiculous to me. I mean, following the teachings of a science fiction writer.....huh???

Klyie W ...

I actually read L.Ron Hubbard's book 'Dianetics' (which is not his science fiction work but the foundation work of Scientology itself) ...

And he's as clever as clever gets ... So I only have one take on that ...

If you don't know the truth, you can't recognise error ... and the closer error is to mimicking the truth? The harder it becomes to discern ... (Even the discerning soul has problems with that one ...

I mean, if someone tells you a blatant lie, you can tell straight away, but what if they are so clever they can disguise a lie as the truth? ... You're in deep shit ...

Intelligence and Widom? There's a chasm between the two ... Wisdom is for the child-like ... Intelligence is for all the adults I can't stand ... *

Love your posts ... I truly do ...

And love your comments and replies ...

David ...

David,

I've always meant to read Dianetics....but never got around to it (story of my life. One of my bosses once gave me the book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.....but I never did get time to read it...hehe).

Intelligence and Widom? There's a chasm between the two ... Wisdom is for the child-like ... Intelligence is for all the adults I can't stand ... *

I love that distinction between wisdom and intelligence!

Thanks for the lovely words.

I taught a class on "cults" and Scientology was at the top of the list... Bunch of crap I say... but that is my belief. It is also my belief that someone who starred in stinkers like Battlefield Earth, The Boy in the Plastic Bubble, Look Who's Talking Too, and Look Who's Talking now needs to take a hit off the reality "pipe"

Hmmm...was he referring to his 'star' on the Hollywood Walk of Fame...?...because otherwise...ah jes done see it sugah.

Didn't the Oasis boys say they're bigger than the Beatles who thought they were bigger than Jesus?

What does this make them?...other then megalomaniacs?

I find Travolta interesting if a little weird.
I love how he flies his jets up to his house!
Hate how he named his son Jet.
Loved him in 'Face/Off'.

Do you know that The Church of Scientology has used his name as proof that homosexuality can be 'cured'?

And that his son Jet is really sick but Travolta refuses to acknowledge that he's autistic.

...see what important things one can learn from Womans Day?....

Being a Sci-Fi fan, I've read L. Ron Hubbard's work.
Hmmm...whatever.

Besides...I'm a Jedi.
We don't believe in cults...

Mis,
Very good point. JT has starred in some absolutely terrible flicks.

Dusk,
Megalomaniacs bore me! I actually don't mind John usually. I really liked Face Off too. And yes, I love how he parks his Jet beside the house. That's cool. But this megalomania thing, is not attractive.

I didn't know about Jet being autistic!

I've read a couple of L. Ron Hubbards works too. I wasn't too taken with them to be honest. But then, it was ages ago, and I'm probably getting it mixed up with another book!

Jedi's rock!!!!!

KylieW,

*tongue in cheek*

I think the truth of his statement will be proven when there are John Travolta Impersonators in Las Vegas and everywhere... even like our local Fruit and Veg Shop, "Grapelands."

Until then, I don't think there is anyway of telling?

Damo - tell me where I can deposit all my money so that I may gain all Xenu's knowledge!

Lilla - Yes, somehow I don't think there'll be John Travolta impersonation concerts and the like.

JD - you know, I've never thought of it before.....but he kinda does look like an Elvis impersonator!!

MrsM - so true. And he can hope and dream!

Ha Dusk, (if I may Kylie)....?

Now that is what every Aqua-Made's house should look like, I agree! As one himself, he obviously knows this fact...?

Dusk,

Thanks for the pic!! I love that pic of his house. Who has a carport jetport for stowing their jet?? Love it.

You're right though, he does need his own cruiseliner. Surely the QE2 should be retiring soon. He could buy that.

Ash,

hehe, you are right. You can hardly compare Elvis and the man who made the Look Who's Talking series. Elvis doesn't stand a chance!! : )

I look forward to one day shopping at a Fruit & Veg store that pays homage to the great John Travolta.

Grapelands....what a great name for a store!!

Loved Travolta in "Pulp Fiction"..

..but have you seen the special top secret director's cut of "Look who's talking too"? There's an outtake of Travolta standing over a subway vent and his big shorts are blowing all around his legs....stunning. One of those classic moments in film history.

Oh..sorry. Got to cut back on those smartass supplements....

D.A,

hahahahaha, I would love to see that clip!!!

Travolta was bloody cool in Pulp Fiction. I give him credit....the man resurrected his career from the dead. Good for him......but to call yourself as famous as Elvis.....dude....no way!!!

Look at what happened to Billy Ray Cyrus when he did the same thing.
