Crocodile Hunters Memorial Service Announced
September 14th 2006 00:12
It was announced yesterday that a public memorial service for the Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, will be held at Australia Zoo's Crocoseum next Wednesday the 20th of September.
3000 free tickets will be released to the public on Friday. All attendees will be asked to make a donation to Irwin's Wildlife Warriors fund.
Steve's memorial service will be broadcast across Australia, and there are discussions about it being shown in Asia and the US.
Steve's widow, Terri thanked the public for their outpouring of support, in a statement read out by Steve's father, Bob. She also stated that while she understood that holding the Crocodile Hunter's memorial service at the zoo would mean that thousands of people would miss out on attending, she felt that it wouldn't feel right to have his service anywhere else.
The memorial service is expected to involve guests sharing their memories of Irwin, with John Williamson to perform True Blue, one of Steve's favourite songs. It's been reported that both Bob and Bindy Irwin will also speak at the service.
Due to the limited number of tickets available, it is expected that large screens will be erected at venues in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast will be showing the service live.
What is sure, is that it will be an emotion filled service. A fitting tribute to a much-loved man.
