Poor OLD Demi Moore
September 14th 2007 00:29
Four years ago Demi Moore spent around $450,000 on a full body surgical makeover hoping that it would help her re-enter the acting game. Was it money well spent? Well, she looked great in a bikini in Charlies Angels: Full Throttle. But what was the last movie you saw Demi in since then??????
My point exactly.
Given that the plastic surgery didn't help, Demi has now resorted to whining to the media about how hard it is for women in their 40's to get good acting roles. In a recent interview Demi said "It's been a challenging few years, being the age I am. Almost to the point where I felt like, well, they don't know what to do with me. I am not 20. Not 30.
"There aren't that many good roles for women over 40. A lot of them don't have much substance, other than being someone's mother or wife."
Demi it seems is on a mission to disabuse Hollywood of the notion that women in their 40's can't take on the juicy roles that those in their 20's and 30's are given, saying "we can't just wait for something to happen. We have to say, 'I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more'."
Demi Moore isn't the first 40-something actress to complain about the lack of roles for women in their 40's. But seriously, this is the woman who did Striptease and GI Jane in the nineties. I'd say that lack of actual acting talent is as much to blame for her trouble in getting acting roles as the fact that she's now over 40!
Yes, there does seem to be a real case of ageism in Hollywood. Older men seem to be much more 'bankable' in movie studios minds than the women. When Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster and Susan Sarandon complain about ageism in Hollywood you seriously consider their argument. But Demi Moore? If she really wanted to be considered for roles, she might have been better off spending that plastic surgery money on acting lessons.
I know it sounds like I'm a Demi hater. But I'm really not. I loved GI Jane. I've seen it quite a few times. But then I wear my love of terrible movies like a badge of honour. I like Demi. But as an actresses? Well, she's got a great body and toyboy husband (though I'd take Bruce over Ashton any day!).

And just for the record my vote goes to Bruce over Ashton any day! Had she stuck with Bruce, she probably wouldn't have spent the 450k. She really lucked out there, in more ways than one!

either play your age or dont play is my view...male or female....trying to be younger than you are is cringe material.....
Merill Streep does it well because she hasnt been afraid to play the wife/mother etc...maybe Demi should suck it up and be a wife for christ sakes ....

Lara - agree!
Louie - and what's wrong with playing a mother? Being a mother or wife doesn't mean that the role isn't meaty and interesting???
Meryl's always played interesting roles. Whether they're mother, wife or whatever!

If as a female you're gonna pursue the sexy route, you've got to resign yourself to a short career. Not much foresight on Demi's part. Then again, hooking up with young Einstein there didn't show much foresight either.
