David Hyde Pierce Comes Out of the Closet
May 31st 2007 00:52
Okay, it's May 31st and I'm trying to get myself prepared for June. June is going to be a very tough month. Paris Hilton will be spending the majority of the month in jail. Lindsay will be in rehab for the month. Mischa Barton will probably lie low after OD'ing on 'shrooms and coke (allegedly). And I doubt Nicole Richie is going to have the energy to do anything good unless she eats something (which she won't).
It going to be a VERY quiet month people!!! Who the hell is going to do anything newsworthy? I'm looking to Hollywood to STEP UP. Do something interesting for christsakes!!!!
So, in order to get myself used to the slow-news month ahead, I have decided not to post about Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan or Britney Spears for the rest of the week. Already, it's pretty hard. But I'm going to tough it out.
Anyway, on to real news......................... ......
David Hyde Pierce, better known as the character "Niles" from the tv show Frasier, has officially confirmed that he is gay. This came about after a story on CNN about David mentioned that he arrived in LA in 1982 with his partner Brian Hargrove.
Afterelton.com contacted Pierce's representatives who confirmed that Brian Hargrove is Pierce's life partner.
According to reports, Pierce's sexuality has always been an open secret in Hollywood.
Since finishing Frasier, David Hyde Pierce has returned to theatre, appearing in Monty Python's Spamalot and currently staring in Curtains, a role for which he has been nominated for a Tony Award.
Anyone surprised? Didn't think so. God I loved him as Niles in Frasier. Niles was the only reason I watched the show.

Absolutely!
You know....I wouldn't have picked it...seriously! Maybe it was all that passion for Daphne Moon...I don't know....oh my God...I'm one of those people that melds the actor with the character...
Kelsey Grammar as Frasier...now he's just gay and in denial!

He was fantastic wasn't he. I must say, having heard the news, I am not surprised. But I had never thought of him as gay either. He and Daphne were SOOO cute.
Funnily enough, I also thought that Frasier was way more gay than Niles.
Pieceofmymind,
As I said before, I thought Frasier was more gay than Niles. Though David Hyde Pierce doesn't exactly come across as the most testosterone fuelled man. I wonder if he was ready to come out, or had to because of the article?
So he's been with his partner for over 25 years......damn that's impressive.

The gay-dar was on full tilt with David HP... He and Frasier might have made better lovers than brothers...

I think that's all that needs to be said.
Mis,
Oh yeah, they would have made a great couple.

And I agree, he was the best thing about Frasier!

Sorry, one of those nights.

I was gonna make a reference to his taking a cue from David in announcing that he's gay, but I see David's blog is... well... *poof*... vanished.

My question is--who asked? Who wants to know that stuff? That's personal business. If I'd been him I'd have told CNN to stuff it.

I can't say I'm surprised, but gay or not... he was the centre of the show for me too.
I'm with Dusk on this one, his passion for Daphne was all encompassing and misleading, yet I guess the clues were always there... in hindsight...
I dunno Kylie, the slow month ahead...may well yet turn out to be quite riveting? *chuckle*

I'd say that makes him even better at his job that we'd thought, eh? Damned good acting! *LOL*
And D. -- no, unfortunately, it wasn't intentional... I only wish I was that clever! *grins*

I think he's great. As I said, Niles was the best thing about Frasier. Bloody hilarious. And what good taste does he have doing a Monty Python production onstage!!!
Thanks for the comments everyone!!!!
