A place where we can indulge our obsession with all things celebrity.

And they wonder why women have body issues????

February 6th 2007 04:53
With all the attention that Mary-Kate Olsen's eating disorder got, and the worry about the ever shrinking Nicole Richie, you could be forgiven for thinking that Hollywood was going to start developing a healthier attitude to women's bodies. But then of course you remember that Hollywood is populated by vapid morons!

janice dickinson
Janice Dickinson
Here's a quote from former model Janice Dickinson when she was asked about the recent controversy surrounding super skinny models:

“I’m dying to find kids who are too thin. I’ve got 42 models in my agency and I’m trying to get them to lose weight. In fact, I wish they’d come down with some anorexia. I’m not kidding. I’m running into a bunch of fat-assed, lazy little bitches who don’t know how to do the stairs or get their butts into the gym.”

Nice quote from a woman who is so skinny that no amount of plastic surgery has been able to hide her badly aging skin and the fact that she looks like a freak.

Then, there's the gossip sites and the general media.

Birdget Moynahan
Bridget Moynahan

This photo was taken from celebrity gossip site PerezHilton. The photo has the word "Moo" written on it, because the article accompanying the picture claims that Bridget is looking a fat in this photo and perhaps she needs to go on a diet!!! Uh, excuse me??? Where is that fat again.....I know you're a gay man Perez, but surely even you should know that those are called breasts!

Nicole Richie
Nicole Richie

The same site, claims that in this picture Nicole Richie is looking hot and even has some booty! Now yes, Nicole is looking more healthy than she has in a while.....but booty?? I think I can actually see her tailbone poking through her ass!!

Perez Hilton
Perez

Yet take a look at this picture of Perez himself (that's him with the pink hair). Ignore the ridiculous looking pink hair and lets focus on the double chin and the hint of man boobs. Irony or just hypocrisy??

Hey, I'm all for ridiculing celebrities but surely you should have to weigh more than the average 11 year old before being called fat???

And that's my rant for the day.........

Hi Kylie

In your last post about Tyra Banks I was saying that they had a larger girl on the ANTM show and Tyra wanted to keep her on because the fashion industry was too obsessed with skinny girls and it needed to change. The judge that disagreed with her was this loud-mouthed Janice Dickinson, she said there was no place for a fatty like her in the show and in the fashion world....I'd boot her off the telly if I could....

Janice Dickinson is a joke.
And she's got obese and obscene lips.
She is The Biggest Sleaser.

If Bridget Monyhan is fat, then Everest is a speed hump.
If anything, Bridget is a bit on the slim side.

If Nicole Richie has booty then Beyonce is Everest!

I'm sorry...I'm not one to disparage another female like this but Nicole is horrible to look at.
What's the point of being female if you're going to deliberately make yourself look like a plank?

As for Perez?
Words fail me...

Hi Ladies - completely agree. Janice Dickinson is just repulsive.

Bridget is most definitely not fat (oh to look like that when I was having a 'fat' day).

And while Nicole looks much better than her skeletal appearance a little while ago, she hardly has booty and great legs. She's still very skinny.

And Perez........hmmm.....

Bridget Moynihan doesn't look "fat," she looks "perfect." Slender is one thing, but I find myself repulsed by the skeletal look on some models. I have to wonder if some of these "standards of beauty" are set by misogynists who want to hurt women.

Being able to count a model's ribs doesn't turn me on; my sick sense of humor tends to wonder about when Auschwitz started a swimsuit competition.

Francis - an Auschwitz swimsuit competition. That's wrong....but funny (my favourite combo!).

You're right, Bridget is not fat. I don't really know who she is....but she looks great!

I'm not sure who that Bridget woman is, but anyone who thinks she is fat is out of their mind. As for Perez, there's enough to mock in Hollywood without resorting to calling a normal sized and gorgeous woman fat. He needs to take a long hard look at himself.

Janice Dickenson's remarks are sickening. I think she's forgotten that there's supposed to be more fat on her body than in her lips.

I don't know who Bridget is, but I'd say she's stunning! She's still on the thin side, but great hair, nice dress...

nicole ritchie? Hot?

Remind me never to go to Hollywood - I'd be considered plus size!
I can't stand to look at Nicole Ritchie. She still looks slightly freakish to me.

Nina & Cibby - agree...not sure who Bridget is exactly, but she ain't fat. She's very attractive.

Janice is revolting.

Claire S - I think anyone who weighs more than 40 kgs is considered plus size in Hollywood!

Utterly brilliant post. This is a topic so close to me - Ive been permanently scarred by years of teasing for being fat, I weighed between 85 and 95kg most of my life. When I decided to get fit I dropped down to 62kg and I was so triumphant, but it didnt last. Stressing out about diet, workouts, and changing body shape have made me realize Im not exactly happy!
The guy/girl spilt on the subject is awful. My boyf(who got with me before I lost weight and wants it back - big boobs and ass!) and I were discussing how in 'Futurama' theres an ep with a character whose name is 'noticibly F.A.T.' and my boyf says, guys just arent teased the way girls are.
When all this 'body image' crap started they said they would change the look of girls on the catwalk. All we got was Sopie Dahl, (did I spell it right?) who slimmed down anyway. Watching the recent fashion show I was disappionted to see Megan Gale was the only one flaunting a gorgeous hourglass shape, and she said she was 'squeezed' into that dress anyway! They say skinny models show off the clothes better - like walking coat hangers - but how about designing some clothes for us to FILL out? If you check it out, not many designers are women anyway....So disappionted by those comments..."Some of my models NEED anorexia" disgusting!

Kleo,

I'm with you 100%. I've always struggled with my weight and body issues. But have recently dropped 20 kgs and am feeling great. But I'm never going to be a "thin" girl. I'm not built that way.

My sister is a size 10 and has a fabulous body (she amazingly fit), and yet she is constantly dieting or convincing doctors to prescribe her diet pills because she thinks she's fat. I could never understand it. Then only last week at a friends place for dinner, her husband made the comment that the last time he saw my sister she was looking a little 'chunky'!!! This is a man who is overweight, telling me my size 10 sister was looking a little chunky??? Gee, I can't imagine why she has body issues!!! Grr.....makes me angry!

As for designers using skinny models because they show off the clothes better. Uh hello, clothes are supposed to be worn....by real women, not walking coat hangers. If you can't design something that looks good on girls bigger than a size 2, then you can't f'ing design!!!!

And Janice Dickinson is just reprehensible. To say something like that....there are no words. She's disgusting.

Thanks for the comments!

Kylie

Mucho agreement. Im a bit like your sister at the moment. Its just not fair - at 85kg, I thought "this is the skinniest I'll ever be" and I was happy and confident, even if I still got the odd geenpeace(whale) comment. When I started to exercise it was about energy, not weight, I didnt own scales or a full length mirror. When i went to visit my mum and she weighed me, I was stunned to be 62kg. I was even more stunned to find I was a size 8! But now, when i look in the mirror, all I see is imperfections. Sure I can wear a midriff top in public and not feel fat, but I hate the guys who gawk at me that teased me before - it is drilled into them that bones are beautiful. What happened to Venus' curves?

Kleo,

Isn't it insane what we put ourselves through!! Between guys expecting women to look like the airbrushed models in their magazines, and women buying into the 'you can never be too thin' mentality it's no wonder that so many young girls end up with eating disorders!!

I totally understand that. I've never had wieght problems, because I have a good metabolism, but I've had friends with wonderfully curvy figures who've moaned about being fat and gone on ridiculously extreme diets. One cut her food intake in half and changed to completely healthy foods from fried foods. Though she lost weight, I got really worried for her, because her period stopped for half a year. Really, when you've put your body through so much change/stress that your periods stopped - that's when it's time to forget about the dieting and maybe think about exercise as a healthy way to lose weight, or just learn to love your curves.

I've told myself I'll never freak too much about weight. I eat what I want, but I don't go nuts with McDonald's and I go to the gym now (I have no strength).

I have another friend who's about half-a-foot shorter than me, but weighs nearly the same, and she looks fabulously curvy (all the guys love her).

It's all about learning to appreciate your body. In spite of the fact that I'm not built like a sumo wrestler, when I was younger I'd still feel the pressure to become skinnier (luckily, I appreciate food too much to even think about dieting). Now, I'm perfectly fine with a small ridge of fat on my belly, and the fact that -yes Janice, some people have actual fat - I have fat on my butt. There's nothing wrong with it. We're female. Without fat, we'd have no boobs and very little butt.

Moral: Yay curves!

Okay, rant/pseudo-social commentary thing ended

*p.s. we shouldn't however, knock females who are genuinely genetically skinny. I do have friends who can't put on weight even though they want too, and who are always complaining about wanting more boobs or butt.

Amy,

I think you're right. It's about being comfortable in your own body. Whether you're naturally skinny or curvy. I'm never going to be thin. I'm not built that way. Despite what I'd want. Finally I'm at ease with that. I like the fact that I have boobs and hips.

But for girls who aren't so comfortable, crap like this just makes them more paranoid.

You are going to have to turn this into a forum!
I thought I was naturally curvy, that no matter how much weight I lost Id always have boobs, bum and hips. The first time I looked at myself after losing 25kg - really looked - I was shocked to find I WAS skinny! I have a spine and a tail bone instead of bum, after tons of pushups I have very small boobs when I was a D cup! My periods didnt stop but they are erratic.
The funniest part? It was ALL exercise - we lived across the road from maccas, I ate it every day!

Oh, like I care what some pinkheaded freak or what looks like the Cryptkeeper in eyeshadow thinks. They should date each other, then.
Start asking guys. Real guys. They love that stuff--boobs and bums. Jennifer Lopez has a big bum and is justifiably proud of it. See her trying to run it off? Hell no! How Nicole Ritchie keeps those shorts up with those pancakes that used to be buns back there is a mystery to me. Fat wallet, maybe?

Anon,

Yeah it's certainly got Perez famous. I'll ridicule celeb's for the incredibly dumb shit they do. But I like to think I won't have a go at their bodies. That's hitting below the belt. Most of them are so screwed up about it anyway and are way too skinny to be healthy. And there's plenty of other people out there willing to have a go at them. I'm no oil painting, so I won't throw stones. But I'm not dumb, so I don't feel bad about pointing out how stupid they may be!!!

Hmm! maybe women need to take a lesson in self esteem from that pink haired moron. Here's a butt ugly guy who looks like a bucket of lard but listen to his dorky comments about those beautiful girls. I bet you he thinks he is too hot to trot....Bridget looks almost too skinny but she is gorgeous and Nicole what can I say!! It's too sad that young girls in our country are going to suffer through so many eating disorders and self esteem problems because of anorexic role models like her.

I blame media as well, why on the earth are beautiful women with curvy figures not given more attention. I know most people think 'whatever' but I have two beautiful daughters aged 10 and 5 and believe me even at that young age kids are affected. It's getting harder and harder to constantly teach them the benefits of being healthy as opposed to being a stick.

Don't even get me started on that freak Janice...why is that lady even given any air time is beyond me. Looks like a bad cross between a drag queen and a skeleton. HA! modeling agency my foot.

LOLZ! listen to me rant

Yeh, I can't stand the woman, she's aggressive and repulsive. What a horrible 'role model' she is. It scares me when people like her are positions of influence. If I had a teenager I would be telling him/her to ignore this vicous woman.

Biteme - I agree 100% with you. These women are all gorgeous. And Nicole looked great before she lost too much weight. The old saying you can never be too rich or thin......is bull. You can be way too thin.

As for Janice Dickinson. She's a freak! I saw pics of her shopping in Malibu the other day......in her bikini. And then saw photo's of her going to dinner, and she lifted up her dress to show off her undies to photographers. She's a desperately sad old woman looking for attention!!!

Tracy - she's disgusting. I can't believe that anyone would put her in charge of young girls, or have her anywhere near a tv.

AHHH...the lives of the rich and fatuous!

I must be in the minority I guess, coz I look at these skinny women and think they look ill...I mean CANCER like sick!

It is revolting to my eyes. I think women should look different to men, so, that means to me women carry some weight, Rubenesque was a much loved and revered physical state some years ago.

I think the swim suit and run way culture have a LOT to answer for!

For a gay man, it still amazes me that straight men want some skinny or muscular woman in bed!!! I did have a couple of girlfriends in my very early years, and they were both Rubneesque, or some would say a bit too much on the plump side...and I LOVED IT!!! MORE to love and hold, GREAT snugglers and cuddlers!!

Interestingly, women who hold a decent amount of weight are more compassionate, observant and caring than skinny runway model types.

What else would a man need???

Interestingly, in men I prefer tall and lean, not too muscular...

CHEERS to all our plump lovelies!!!!

Perez Hilton disgusts me, hes the one who called Britney fat after her performance at the VMAs when she had noticeably slimmed down and shed her post-baby weight . . . i think he just says outrageous untrue things to increase his internet traffic . . . hes an ignorant offensive slob of a man

Bridget Moynahan is that chick out of I Robot with Will Smith . . . shes skinny as a string bean

and Janice Dickinson . . . well . . . im lost for words . . . the fashion industry really has to go have a good hard look at itself and i hope consumers boycott products she promotes . . . what a revolting thing for her to say

He's one to talk those man boobs hang like saddle bags they reach his knees for gods sake! and that double chin, lets not get started folks, on that disgusting piece of lard hanging off of his neck. Gives me nightmares UGH! Nicole Ritchie having legs is like Perez Hiton joining L.A weight loss, NEVER GONNA HAPPEN. and along comes a tall beautiful bruneete with legs an ass and some boobs and BAM BUST OUT THE THINSATIONS this chick is "huge" I swear to you one day Im gonna go up to perez punch him right in the eyes and see if he can still judge people with a shiner. Lets see if u can say who eats to much or too little when u can feel the blood clotting in your eye!

Women should look healthy and not fatty.

I mean it does help to reduce osteoporosis, gout, joint pain and other women problems with the help of leaner and fitter body.

Not the bone skinny ones.

(I like the Nike models, though they are a little thinner, but they are surely lean and fit - I can't say I am one of them - yet)

They have tormented the market and the fashion industry is bring the world's girls into disaster for the sake of sliding into their so-called "fashion wardrobe".

Do excuse me. That's just my mind pouring out.

The woes of body issues. I used to be thinner than Nicole Richie - seriously. For many years. I didn't diet but could not put on weight no matter what I did. People used to say the most horrible things to me, but of course this was before skeletal was the height of fashion. Nobody would have dared walk up to someone's face and say, "you are fat and ugly" but I had plenty of people say,"you look revolting, what are you sick or something?". I started telling people I had cancer just to make them feel bad. I am naturally a little person but thank God you can't see my ribs anymore and I look back on those photos and cry. I looked horrible. Nobody looks good that thin and it pains me to think it's encouraged.

Anyone that thinks Brigitte Moynahan is fat needs their head read. She is beautiful and still a little on the too thin side. I long for a body like Scarlett Johanssen with boobs and a bum and curves. That's what women should aspire to.

Great post Kylie. Perez should jump up and down and knock himself out cold with his manboobs.1
